Elm Tree Planting at the Senior Center

On Arbor Day, two 8' elms donated by the Historical Society were planted at the Senior Center. Warrensburg Central School teacher John Burns and four of his students, Anna Brand, Sarah Leguire, Cole Tennant, and Blake Vaisey, participated, and volunteer Larry Collier assisted. Town and school officials, parents, and reporters were among those in attendance.

Society President Paul Gilchrist explained that the trees (and those planted at The Richards Library) are disease-resistant Liberty Elms, developed over several decades by Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin in conjunction with the Elm Research Institute in Keene, New Hampshire. For further information, see the ERI's website at www.elmresearch.org

    Artifacts Night

The spring Artifacts Night was held at the Senior Center. One item presented was an Arbor Day poem in the schoolboy handwriting of the late Herrick "Hap" Osborne, Warren County Superintendent of Highways from 1939-1969 and father of Society volunteer Liz Sebald. Paul Gilchrist later read an excerpt of the poem at the Arbor Day tree-planting ceremony.
