2026 Message from Museum Director
Welcome back everyone and greetings to our new volunteers. We had an exciting 2025 season with over 500 visitors to the museum. A huge Thank you to all of our Volunteers, greatly appreciate the time and effort put into sharing the Warrensburg and Thurman community history. We are now working on our 2026 adventures at the museum. We have a lot going on.
New Folks: If this is your first time receiving an email from the Museum welcome, I encourage you to review the information and let me know if you have any questions. I am hoping you will be willing to volunteer during our 2026 season. I have a small booklet that I can email or meet with you to go over the activities of a docent - the museum is a self guided tour so you do not need to know all of the historical details. A smile and 2hours of your time is perfect. At the end of this email is a calendar of dates of the museum operational days. We typically open in May and will close at the end of October; we are often open by appointment in the winter and other times of the year. We have many school groups and reunion of sorts visiting during the summer months
Here are some of the plans with all sorts of volunteer skills needed.
Our museum will have opening weekend on May 23rd and May 24th (yes this is memorial day weekend). Our museum exhibit will focus on the Famous Travelers in and around Thurman and Warrensburg. We will start here with some activities that will need to be accomplished during April 2026. I or the Howe's ( Rae, Russ & Ryan) will be able to open the museum. There will be times during the week and weekends that the museum can be opened. Please email or call with some times you will be available.

Activities for April 2026
- Celebrity Display–
- Display Cases Mechanics
- Military Case -to be emptied will be used for Large Coat
- Portable 3 sided door -Items to be removed and painted, once painted plexi glass to be attached
- Two high school display cases - Items to be removed -need to install a stand to hang a night gown in one
- Wooden display case upstairs to be moved down stairs to be used for hat
- Victorian Porch - mannequins to be removed and clothing removed.
- Install plexi glass for security of display item
- Colonial arms sign to be moved to porch
- Victorian porch - new back drop to create a background for Marilyn Monroe
- Display Cases Mechanics
- Anecdotal Information
- Will need several anecdotal information written down to be retyped for display on foam board
- Any volunteer that has information to share about famous visitors to our area- please share -I will need your First and Last Name, Name of Famous Person, Details of your information about the Famous Person. Please forward as an email or call me at the museum 518-623-2928

- Promotion - Sun News, Chronicle, Times Union, Social Media
- May 23rd,24th We hope to be open from 10am-4pm and we most likely will need upto or more than 4 volunteers for each day. On May 23rd we may show a movie at the 4pm time - we are still discussing the movie.

- Military- Honoring of our Military and the 250th--July 4th-11th
- Thurman -August 2026
